Why Lignis Works When Other Tools Fail
When your dysgraphic or dyslexic child spells creatively, like this: "i red mi fiziks buk in bed wt mi nu lit" (I read my physics book in bed with my new light.) The traditional spell-checker doesn't even come close to a useful suggestion.
Lignis, on the other hand, will easily understand the meaning walk the child through the process of correcting each misspelled word.
Instead of looking at the letters and trying to match them to a "close" word in the dictionary, Lignis uses AI to think about the sounds of the words and what they likely mean within the context of everything that was written. This works wonders! Lignis will actually get what your child is trying to write.
On top of this, Lignis cleanly separates the writing from the spelling. Here's what research tells us: spelling and thinking compete for the same limited mental workspace. When a child has to wrestle with spelling while writing, the ideas get pushed out. Studies show that when struggling writers dictate instead of type, they produce up to four times more text. But in our experience, dictating isn't always an option, and that is where typing (with Lignis there to support) steps in.
Writing Within Lignis
1
Write Freely
Type without being interrupted. No red squiggles mid-sentence. No auto-correct quietly changing words. Get the ideas out first. Five decades of writing research confirms that separating writing from editing produces better results. When students get ideas down first without interruption, the ideas are richer and more complete.
2
Lignis Understands the Meaning
For someone with spelling challenges stemming from Dyslexia or Dysgraphia what they write can be hard to interpret. A child might write "cyanc" for "science", and traditional tools simply can't make that connection, or might incorrectly say the word is "cyan". Lignis uses AI to read the intended sound and figure out the word from the context.
Standard spell checkers fail these students both ways. They flag nearly every word, creating a wall of red underlines and anxiety while missing errors that happen to be real words. For students with learning differences, traditional tools leave many flagged errors unresolved or resolved incorrectly even after pointing them out.
3
Spell it Right
Misspelled words get highlighted. But instead of clicking a button to accept a correction, your child sees the correct spelling and types it out themselves. The act of retyping matters. With practice, the hands start to remember the correct spelling.
4
Custom Review Sessions
Your child doesn't make the same mistakes as the kid next to them. Lignis pays attention to what your child specifically has trouble with and builds short practice sessions around those particular words.
